American Fork, Utah, September 23, 2025—Utah Cancer Specialists is pleased to share that Dr. William Stephenson, medical oncologist and composer, will premiere two original works at Reflections, a free community concert presented by the Timpanogos Chamber Music Series on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Mount Timpanogos Village in American Fork.
The evening pairs new music with beloved repertoire in a program that balances reflection, charm, and brilliance.
At the heart of the program is the world premiere of Reflections on a Journey with Cancer (2025), written by Dr. Stephenson about the deep emotional passage of people facing cancer and the many ways individuals cope with such a diagnosis. The piece, whose words were inspired by a moment of clarity during a hike on Mt. Timpanogos, sets Dr. Stephenson’s lyrics to an existing melody by Maurice Ravel (1875–1937), aligning musical language with themes of resilience, growth, and hope.
A second premiere, Trece de Coco, a trio for flute, oboe, and bassoon, will also debut that night. The program further features works by Poulenc, Chaminade, Milhaud, and others, performed by an outstanding ensemble of artists.

About Dr. William Stephenson
Dr. Stephenson is a medical oncologist with a long-standing passion for composition. What began nearly 30 years ago with a chance bookstore find—Music Theory for Dummies—grew into dedicated study of music theory and composition. He has studied chamber and orchestral composition with Adam Schoenberg, DMA, and choral composition with James Eakin III, DMA, winner of the 2022 American Prize in Composition, and he currently studies with Esther Megargel, MM. His work for this concert reflects years of disciplined study and a heartfelt commitment to giving musical voice to the patient journey.
